As businesses grow, we require to use the services of others to help undertake activities that need to be done in order to run effectively and produce a profit. Many small businesses start off with an individual, or a couple doing the majority of the work & if we are not careful we can end up working 24/7 instead of utilising the services of others.

Monday's meeting will look at ways to help grow our businesses effectively by utilising different skills and roles.

The Lennox family, Scottish Enterprise agritourism Monitor farmers at Luss, Loch Lomond, have launched their new business name, brand & logo.
It’s a fantastic achievement after a year’s work starting with a brand workshop last June delivered by Lesley Wood @lmwconsulting then working through developing a brand persona, and brief for design agency for the new logo.

A lot of thinking time and debate in between.
We hope the new brand will help the business stand out in the market place, and will streamline digital communications.
Work is underway on the procurement of a new website.

Here we are, Drift owners and Directors Stuart and Here we are, Drift owners and Directors Stuart and Jo McNicol.
It felt like a long time in coming but in June 2018 we finally saw a dream come true when we officially opened the doors to Drift and welcome our first customers.
Drift is in fact our 3rd attempt into developing a food and drink farm diversification business. Wrong location, too big, starting a family among other things were all contributing factors.
A chance sighting of an up cycled shipping container used to serve tea in Bristol back in 2013 and a walk on a wet and windy day to the cliff edge in search of the right location the idea of Drift began to take off.
The idea was to keep it simple and Coffee and cake became our way forward. Stuart’s background is farming and whilst Jo had experience in the hospitality industry, hers was in primary teaching before starting Castleton Events in 2012.
Since 2018 we have grown in confidence, staff and menu! We truly believe we have built an amazing team that we think of as family who work hard, pull together, support one another and feel secure in our vision. They all contribute to this in some way or other and for that we are truly thankful to them.
The icing on the cake for us was being selected as the East Central monitor farm in the Scottish Enterprise Agritourism Project. Working with and being facilitated by Caroline along with the support of Scottish Enterprise and the team that is developing through our regular meetings is a fabulous support and incredible asset to our business. It drives us to improve and develop and gain experience in all sorts of ways.
Finally a big thanks has to go to our customers, regular and new for supporting another local family run business, without you we wouldn’t have a business. Every day is a different day which you all contribute to and we love every moment.
To anyone looking to start a farm diversification, go for it, it could be the best thing you’ve ever done, it certainly has been for us.#madmarchhare

It can be tricky combining running a farm business It can be tricky combining running a farm business and a diversification business at the same time. Which is why we have weekly meetings to touch base with what the other is doing. It’s amazing what can be learnt, decided on and plans that can be made. It’s time to appreciate the work put in to making each business a success, gain insight and spur each other on. It’s not always easy but finding the time is so important for our mental and emotional well being. It keeps things clear in our own minds, I like order so it particularly helps me keep the diversification in order! It keeps us focussed so we achieve more. It has a positive effect to us all as a personal family with our children and within the Drift family as it’s now become known.
Farming life isn’t always easy which is why these meetings along with the continued support from family, friends, the Agritourism Monitor Farm project and group, the farming community, the Drift family and of course our Drift customers, regular and new are so vital to keep the cogs turning and chins up!
